The price and cachet of vintage, the quality and service of new
When you think about it...
" Was this new garment really worth producing? "
That’s the question I ask myself every day through my JamaisVulgaire website, where I introduce you to brands that bring real added value to the men’s fashion market.
I might as well tell you that I also see a lot of brands that offer a bland product with no real differentiation from what’s already out there, that are simply intermediaries between you and a workshop, but whose added and creative value does not justify their margins at all.
The same is true of accessories, especially ties.
At the same time, I’m very interested in vintage (the real thing, not the second-hand stuff on Vinted). I asked myself the same question the other way around:

Because let’s not kid ourselves: even if vintage has been making a comeback in recent years, certain pieces, such as ties, are only marginally affected.
Yet there are plenty of practically new ties on the market from the 70s and 90s, obviously 100% silk, and made (often by hand) in Italy, Japan or South Korea.
And that you’ll never see on Vinted.
The problem with vintage is:
– you have to rummage through dusty thrift shops
– or buy online with blurred visuals and no real guarantee
– products often in poor condition
– with questionable hygiene (second-hand is the 4th biggest source of bedbug infestation, think about it)
– and often with poor service and non-existent packaging.
In short, the vintage experience wasn't appealing (but that was before).
