The Paisley motif
Paisley was mostly worn by the son of a good family, first in England but also in Ivy League families. It was one of the few ties whose pattern was considered whimsical but acceptable in a casual setting.
The rather unique purple background adds color to an outfit and goes particularly well with neutral tones like the light gray of this striped business suit. This pattern, halfway between floral and paisley, is the perfect accompaniment to stripes.
