Patterns and styling tips
The paisley motif
Paisley was mostly worn by the son of a good family, first in England but also in Ivy League families. It was one of the few ties whose pattern was considered whimsical but acceptable in a casual setting.
These days, reserve imposing paisleys for outfits with tweed and flannel, and indulge your business outfits with more discreet patterns.
The paisley pattern is quite small and spaced out, so the tie is very easy to wear, like a simple burgundy tie in silk grenadine.
